About Foundations for Institutional Transformation

The Foundations for Institutional Transformation, or FIT, model weaves together policy, perspective, and practice through five critical points of institutional transformation:

  1. Identifying challenges and opportunities
  2. Convening and equipping a diverse team
  3. Rallying around a shared vision
  4. Creating an action plan
  5. Implementing and refining

The FIT model is at the center of CCA’s institutional transformation work. CCA has implemented it at numerous levels, from individual workshops and sessions with campuses and states to the larger Complete College America Accelerator, part of the Gates Foundation’s Intermediaries for Scale ecosystem.

Foundations for Institutional Transformation Teams

Institutions implementing the FIT model put together a project team to lead the transformation work. The team should include 5-7 members, typically consisting of the following:

  • Project Lead
  • Institutional Lead
  • Data Lead
  • Communications Lead
  • Equity Lead
  • Policy Lead

The Project Lead is responsible for the overall leadership and execution of the project and serves as the primary liaison to CCA.

The FIT model also incorporates a larger institutional team, with an institutional lead, to scale the work on the campus. The Institutional Lead represents each participating institution and might be the college president, chancellor, or provost. The institutional team should consist of campus-level leaders from a cross-section of functional areas within the institution who are charged with campus-level implementation.
