Dr. Maggie George owns and operates an education consulting firm that specializes in strategic planning, academic program design, assessment, evaluation, and proposal development in tribal colleges and communities. Since 2016, she has served as a Leadership Coach with Achieving the Dream. In this capacity, has mentored leaders and student success teams in tribal colleges in Michigan, Minnesota, and North Dakota.
Maggie has worked in higher education since 1987. She served as College President at Diné College, the original tribal college; was appointed by Barack Obama as Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Tribal Colleges and Universities; served as faculty, dean, and chief academic officer at other locations; and directed policy development at the state and tribal levels. Her work has focused on access and student success in higher education for American Indians and other under-served communities.
She has conducted research on indigenous teacher education, native language revitalization, indigenous philosophies of education, academic assessment, and ongoing program improvement.
Her most recent include working on community action research projects with tribal communities in New Mexico, supported by the Kellogg Foundation, and on a feasibility study for Zuni Pueblo for the development of that community’s own tribal college.
