For the past two years, I served as a College Adviser with the Missouri College Advising Corps (MCAC) in West Plains, MO. MCAC places a recent college graduate in a high school to empower Missouri youth to pursue a post-secondary pathway, whilst educating them about the ins-and-outs of navigating their early adult life. Currently, I work as an Academic Advisor with the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) College of Business. UMSL has a large, diverse population, of which more than 70% are transfer students from around the county and state. From my previous experience, I am very interested in more proactive advising at UMSL to increase our retention and graduation rates. As a former transfer student, I can relate with students on feeling disconnected from their college life and hope to encourage more transfer students to get involved with proactive advising.
