As a former employee of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) as well as a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Clark County School District, Johnny takes great pride being from the Silver State and facilitating tomorrow’s leaders towards higher education.

Johnny worked as an Admission Counselor for UNLV, guiding underrepresented students from his hometown in Eastside Las Vegas in the form of one-on-one counseling sessions, financial aid workshops and college tours. Johnny was also responsible for engaging and directing students outside of Las Vegas, traveling throughout Rural Nevada, the Carson and Reno area to aid students in attending the University. Previous experience includes time as an Academic Advisor – Transition/Completion Specialist for Nevada State College, strengthening networks between the community colleges and universities within the state of Nevada, dealing with academic standing and student support services. This, and his experience as a first-generation student, allows him to understand the various challenges students will face towards a post-secondary education and aims to create a proactive climate in high school to increase enrollment and ultimately, retention and completion.

Johnny received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Sociology and focus in Latin American Studies and a Masters of Education in Higher Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
