Marián Vargas is serving as a Policy Analyst for Complete College America. She is an equity focused educator and policy/advocacy nonprofit leader that is deeply committed to closing disparities in educational outcomes for students from marginalized groups in the U.S. Previously, Marián worked as a 6th grade teacher in Denver, Colorado through Teach For America. While teaching, she pushed to include English Language Development (ELD) and Social Justice content in all class materials across the 6th grade team with the goal of providing students at the predominantly Multi-Language Learner (MLL) school with more academically and culturally relevant materials. She also co-created a new Social Justice and ELD curriculum with KIPP Colorado. This curriculum is now being taught to hundreds of students across two predominantly MLL schools in order to boost English Language mastery while fostering social awareness amongst the school population. During this time, Marián also completed the Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) Policy and Advocacy Summer Fellowship with the Colorado Education Initiative (CEI). At the CEI she assisted in developing a strategy for the recruitment of new brand ambassadors and organizations to promote the Colorado Education Hub, resulting in greater Hub membership across all school districts in Colorado. She also assisted in creating a long-term strategy for K-12 school reopenings in the midst of the pandemic, with a focus on the socio-emotional development of students and staff, to be implemented by district level school executives across Colorado. Marián holds a Bachelors in Economics and Political Science and a minor in Nonprofit Organizational Leadership from the University of Florida, class of 2019.
