University of Hawai‘i (UH), the state’s single public higher education system, launched the Hawaiʻi Graduation Initiative (HGI) in 2010 to boost the number of educated citizens for Hawai‘i.  Endorsed by the UH Board of Regents and established as one of four priorities in the UH Strategic Directions for 2015-2021, HGI is aligned with the state’s 55 by ’25 Campaign to increase to 55% working-age adults with two- or four-year degrees by 2025.  With the state’s rate of degree production in 2010, a shortfall of 57,000 degree holders was expected. Committed to closing this gap, the UH system and ten campuses implemented structural improvements and data-based strategies such as the award winning STAR GPS system and 15 to Finish campaign.  The University is committed to supporting increased student participation and completion, particularly for Native Hawaiians and students from underserved populations and regions, and to expand workforce development opportunities across the state.
