Saundra King is currently the Assistant Vice President of Remediation and Innovation at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, IN where she led the statewide redesign of developmental studies, creation of distinct math pathways, and multiple placement measures. Through these initiatives, placement into developmental math decreased from 76% to 25% within 6 years; gateway math success for students placing into developmental math increased from 29% in 3 years to 65% in 1 semester through the implementation of co-requisite math. She is a native of North Carolina, but spent most of her life in Tennessee. She earned an Associate of Science, General Studies from Walters State Community College in Morristown, TN; Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Community College Leadership program at Ferris State University. Prior to joining Ivy Tech, she served as the Director of Transitional Studies at Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee. While in Tennessee, she served on the Developmental Studies Redesign Task Force, which was charged with the redesign of the developmental studies program for the Tennessee Board of Regents system. In addition, she developed, taught and coordinated, “College and Personal Success”. Saundra has also facilitated workshops on Strengths. She has also worked in Massachusetts, serving as the Director of Advising and Assessment at MassBay Community College in Wellesley Hills. While in Chattanooga, she also worked with the Domestic Violence Coalition of the Greater Chattanooga Area, serving on the board for many years.
