We are thrilled to welcome an incredible group of luminaries and leaders for two full days of reflection, dialogue, and dreaming about the future of digital learning and culture at HBCUs. Join us as we take a bird’s-eye view of the project to date and the agenda for the convening. 

Students are the reason for our work. They are our inspiration and our why. As we kick-off the convening, this panel will center the experiences and perspectives of students- and lay a foundation for our thinking about digital learning infrastructure. 

Over the last 6 months – across interviews, focus groups, site visits & workshops –initiative partners have shared insights about the current state of digital learning at HBCUs and what’s possible for the future. The CCA team will share a draft framework to guide thinking, investment, and action. 

We will work together in small groups to reflect on the DLI strategic framework, focusing on what stood out and what might be missing. These reflections will help us round out the insights that will guide our work going forward.

Building on our reflections, we’ll turn a critical eye to the research themes to evaluate their potential for impact. We will also work to discuss prioritization to ensure we align potential with urgency. 

We invite HBCU teams to use this time for reflection, discussion, and integration of the conversations from the day. Each team will be joined by members of the CCA team and the advisory council to facilitate the conversation and gather feedback.

Hear from initiative participants from Coppin State on the successes of their DLI work to date – and the opportunities for expanding impact and innovation.

Institutional leadership is critical to digital learning success. This panel will focus on the role of leadership in driving the digital learning agenda by aligning policy, perspective, and practice – including a special focus on investments in HBCUs from a federal government perspective. 

Transformation happens through the actions of leaders at all levels of the institution. Through role-based breakouts, we’ll work to identify the resources, tools, and professional development needed to sustain digital learning infrastructure. 

As we confront the immediate opportunities and challenges for DLI, we can begin to imagine possible futures at the intersection at technology and teaching and learning. 

Engage with foundation leaders to understand their perspective, shape the vision for DLI, discuss then the future of the strategy. 

Institutions will participate in a mapping activity to identify technology on their campus and opportunities for alignment, guided by CCA’s student success pillars. Teams will also brainstorm possible solutions to fill existing gaps.

Even as we center HBCUs in this work, we know the challenges of digital learning infrastructure exist across the postsecondary sector. This panel will consider how insights and strategies from this work can inform digital learning practice and culture beyond HBCUs. 

We’ll hear about parallel initiatives and investments – with a focus on showcasing emerging learnings and considering ways to align the DLI strategy with on-going work. 

As our time together comes to a close, Complete College America will share recommendations for on-going planning, investment, collaboration and action.
