All my life I have understood the value of preparation, planning, and acting with intention.  However, only as I have learned about the world by raising two strong daughters, working with students who had more aspiration than opportunity, living abroad in a country where I didn’t speak the language, volunteering in my community, and working with colleges who wanted to be different but were afraid to change did I understand the degree to which true growth requires risk taking. ​

When I left my tenured mathematics faculty position at a selective liberal arts college to invest my professional energy into improving college success for all students, it was scary and not without cost, but I had a strong and supportive net and my PhD in mathematics gave me incredible opportunities. ​

​I have been so fortunate to be married to my best friend, have a mother who is my biggest fan, and have had many opportunities to fail, succeed, and grow alongside some of wisest and kindest people you could ever meet.
