Steve currently resides in San Jose, CA and is a native of Los Angeles, CA.  His family roots go back to Louisiana, Arkansas, and Chicago.  He was raised to believe he could achieve anything he put his mind to, despite the fact that public high school counselors did not encourage such aspirations.   Through sports Steve found the importance of persistence, high work ethic, leadership, mentoring, and collaboration.  He also learned the power and importance of positive thinking and communication through sports.  At a young age, Steve began to understand it is equally important to give back to the community, and fondly recalls his best jobs growing up as a summer camp counselor for disadvantaged youth.  Simply being a person of color in a leadership role provides him with a platform to help the next generation understand what is possible, and encourage them to “be great”.  ​

Steve loves cooking and has been known to cause a stir with New Year’s gumbo (since it’s hard to find good gumbo in CA!!)  He also enjoys music and coaching.  He especially enjoys time with his wife and 3 children (when they aren’t teasing him about his outdated dance moves).​

CCA provides another opportunity for Steve to contribute to an organization that strives to improve the odds for young people who would not otherwise get the opportunity to “be great” through education.
