Bakersfield College
Hi. I’m Richard McCrow, born and raised in Spokane, Washington. I am one of eleven siblings and was raised by a single mom. I attended Shadle Park High School, but dropped out in my junior year to work construction. At 18 years-old I joined the United States Navy and attended recruit and basic hospital corpsman training in San Diego, California. My his first assignment was in Subic Bay, Philippines. During this first tour I was involved in providing medical care to Vietnamese refugees seeking to migrate to the United States. As a 19 year old hospital corpsman, I provided medical care for over five hundred refugees housed in camps at the Naval Air Station, Cubi Point, Philippines. This experience enlightened me to the need to better position myself to help others. I subsequently completed numerous tours of duty around the world to include operational and humanitarian missions. I attended West Hills Community College while stationed at the Naval Hospital, Lemoore and later attended Fresno Pacific College where I graduated with a degree in Marketing & Management. I was commissioned a Naval Officer in 1994, and then graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Masters Degree in Education. I was assigned to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery as the Program Officer for operational medicine education and training. I later took a job at the Naval Medical Education and Training Command, Bethesda, Maryland where I developed strategies and policy to educate and train Navy Medical Department personnel around the globe. In my last military assignment, I was the Interim Academic Dean and Education Student Support Department Chair at the Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego. In 2007, I retired after thirty years of military service to be the Director, Bakersfield College Delano Campus for ten years. I am currently with Bakersfield College as Dean of Instruction, Behavioral Sciences and Public Safety Programs.
