Report Showcases Nationwide Impact and Outlines Next Steps to Further Increase Graduation Rates and Close Institutional Equity Gaps

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 9, 2024) – Complete College America (CCA), a national nonprofit working to increase college completion rates and promote equity in higher education, today published Scaling Completion: 2023 Progress Report. The report tracks CCA’s latest efforts to shift policies, perspectives, and practices to help more students earn degrees and credentials.

“In Scaling Completion, we not only highlight the progress we have made in the past year but also reflect on the remarkable scaling of the college completion movement over the past decade and a half,” said CCA President Yolanda Watson Spiva, Ph.D. “Together, our Alliance members and partners, our network of Fellows and staff, our Board members, and our funders have built a movement and worked to transform institutions, improving outcomes for millions of students across the nation.”

The 2023 Progress Report details CCA’s scaling of proven strategies through major initiatives like the new Complete College Accelerator, which is working closely with more than 80 institutions across 11 states. It also spotlights CCA’s latest resources, including: Ending Unfunded Mandates in Higher Education, which reimagines funding models to better support institutional transformation: Attainment with AI, CCA’s playbook that offers specific steps for using the technology to scale strategies that increase college attainment, and The AI Divide, a paper on AI and equity in higher education that lays out the role of the CCA Council on Equitable AI.

Looking ahead, the report previews CCA’s future efforts related to expanding equitable AI adoption, capital funding for HBCUs, civic learning integration, math pathways, and more.

Since its founding in 2009, CCA has grown from an alliance of 17 states to 51 members spanning states, systems, and consortia. Through this nationwide network, CCA has supported hundreds of institutions in increasing their completion rates and boosting the number of skilled college graduates ready to support the nation’s growing economy.
