Wyoming operates a divided governance model for postsecondary education. The University of Wyoming, the state’s only public four-year institution, is governed by a Board of Trustees. The Wyoming Community College Commission (WCCC) coordinates the state’s eight community colleges, overseeing advocacy, funding, accountability, and academic programs. The Commission is led by an Executive Director and supported by appointed commissioners serving six-year terms approved by the State Senate, along with a staff of 11 who manage strategic plan implementation, administrative support, information gathering, and computing systems for the colleges. Private institutions operate with limited state oversight, primarily following accreditation standards.
