The South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR) serves as the governing body for six public universities and two special schools. The Board consists of nine members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the state legislature for six-year terms. The regental system includes: Black Hills State University, Dakota State University, Northern State University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, South Dakota State University, and the University of South Dakota. The Board also governs the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the South Dakota Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Board’s mission is to govern these institutions to “engage, advocate and ensure stewardship in post-secondary public education policy, resource utilization and overall regental effectiveness.”
