Nevada’s public higher education system is governed by the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), which includes eight institutions serving more than 100,000 students statewide. Oversight is provided by a 13-member Board of Regents, whose members are publicly elected to six-year terms. The Board of Regents is responsible for setting systemwide policies, approving institutional budgets, and ensuring alignment with Nevada’s higher education goals.
NSHE’s leadership includes a Chancellor, appointed by the Board of Regents, who serves as the system’s chief executive officer. The Chancellor is tasked with implementing board policies, leading strategic initiatives, and advancing student success across the state.
The eight institutions governed by NSHE include: College of Southern Nevada; Desert Research Institute; Great Basin College; Nevada State University; Truckee Meadows Community College; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno; and Western Nevada College.
This unified governance structure supports a broad range of academic, research, and workforce training programs to meet the diverse needs of Nevada’s communities.
