Forces For Change: Policy, Perspective & Practice
We believe higher education has a choice. We can choose to see problems differently, adopt new practices, and change policy, or we can sit back and let systemic challenges persist. We can either reflect the racial, social, and economic injustices of society—or we can be an engine of equity, prosperity, and hope.

After 3 years of high school teaching experience and 1 year as a “lecturer” after graduate school at WVU, I settled in at WV Northern CC to teach mathematics in 1979. Along the way I have worked in the graphing calculator “movement”, helped shape developmental education in the state by serving as the Treasurer of WVADE for the last 30 years, coordinated the state’s premier faculty development initiative (the WV Great Teachers Seminar) and represented WVNCC on the WV Advisory Council of Faculty to serve as a resource to the legislature as well as the HEPC and the CCTCE on issues pertaining to higher education. Outside of our hallowed halls, I enjoy time with my wife Patti and two adult kids, I try to play the guitar and sing like Bob Dylan and I get to as many contra dances as possible.
